Ingredients

FOR THE DOUGH
3 cups Maida or All-Purpose Flour
3/4 tsp Baking Powder
Salt
As per taste
FOR THE FILLING
3/4 cup Cabbage
Grated
3/4 cup Carrots
Finely Chopped
3/4 cup Green Onions
Finely Sliced
1/2 cup Green Onions
Finely Chopped
1/2 cup Capsicum
Finely Chopped
1 tsp Garlic
Finely Chopped
1 1/2 tsp Soy Sauce
1/2 tsp Vinegar
1/2 tsp Black pepper powder
1/4 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
1/4 tsp Sesame Seeds
1 tbsp Oil
Pinch Salt
As per Taste

Steamed Vegetable Dumplings are a real treat for all age-groups and are healthy because of the method how they are cooked – by steaming. Here, is a quick recipe for Easy Steamed Vegetable Dumplings or fondly known as Veg Momo’s in India.

Steps

For the Dough

Combine all the ingredients together and knead it into a stiff dough using little water.

Let it rest for about 15-20 minutes.

For the Filling

Heat oil in a pan. Once it reaches smoking point add the sesame seeds and switch to medium flame. Add garlic and sauté until the raw smell goes away.

Add onions and cook until they are transparent. Switch to high flame.

Now, add capsicums, carrots and grated cabbage. Cook until the vegetables turn glossy.

Turn off the heat. Immediately, add salt, vinegar and soy sauce and mix well.

Add the onion greens and mix well again.

How to Proceed

Roll out thin disc’s out of the dough made. Size should be about 4” round disc

Place some filling in the center of the disc.

Using your fingertips, apply water on all the sides of the disc.

Now, start making pleats one by one and join the pleats towards the center.

If pleating is difficult, then simply fold the disc and make it look like a half-moon shaped dumpling.

Now, arrange these dumplings in a steamer and steam them for about 8 minutes.

Ensure that you don’t over-steam them otherwise they will be chewy.

And under-steaming them will make you feel eating raw flour in your mouth.

You should stop steaming them once the dumplings are translucent.
