Coconut Chutney

Chutney Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Coconut freshly Grated
  • 4-6 Green Chilies
  • 1 inch Ginger piece
  • 3 tbsp Roasted Chana Dal
  • Salt to taste

For the tempering:

  • 1-1/2 tbsp Sesame Oil or any other Cooking Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida
  • 1 tsp Urad Dal
  • 1 tsp Chana Dal
  • 8-10 Curry Leaves


  • In a blender, add all the chutney ingredients. Blend until the coconut is nice creamy and chutney like consistency. Add a little water and mix well.
  • Remove it in a serving bowl.

For the tempering:

  • Heat oil in tadka pan. Once it smokes, add mustard seeds and asafetida.
  • As it crackles, add chana and urad dal. Let them become brown.
  • Add curry leaves and switch off the flame.
  • Add this tadka to the chutney.
  • It is ready to serve with your favourite Idlis or any other South Indian snacks.
